Darcy.Verbeurgt@sd47.bc.ca
Darcy Verbeurgt brings more than 30 years of experience in education, with a career spanning classroom teaching, student services, and school and district leadership. He holds a Bachelor of Education in Elementary Rural Education from the University of Victoria and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Lethbridge.
Darcy began his career with five years of classroom teaching, followed by nine years as a Student Services Teacher. He then served as Vice-Principal and Principal at Laurie Middle School. From 2011 to 2024, Darcy was the District Principal of Student Services with Southeast Kootenay School District 5, where he led initiatives focused on inclusive education, student support, professional development, and mentorship across the district.
Throughout his career, Darcy has been committed to creating inclusive and supportive learning environments where students and staff can thrive. He values strong relationships, collaboration, and compassionate approaches to education, and goes above and beyond to support the success of students, staff, and the school community.
Outside of his professional life, Darcy has always found ways to bring learning and connection into the community. A lifelong gardener, camper, hiker, and kayaker, he believes in the value of curiosity and learning beyond the classroom. At the heart of it all is family, and he values the time he spends with his wife of 37 years, Karen, and their two children, Max and Jillian.
